I went to Japan. Emotions “GIK”
For someone, perhaps it is ridiculous, but first of all, Japan attracts me with pop culture, and not a rich history. Three of the four favorite letters on Letterboxd are shot in Japan;Kurosawa is one of the favorite directors;I trudge from Japanese games and from Kojima in particular; They came up with anime – and this is the main source of my sentimental tears.
And with a sacred desire to touch the homeland of these wonderful things, I got into the plane. And it turned out in two ways. All that I planned to get delight, and everything I wanted to buy went on a pixel Japanese ass. The expectations were faced with reality: not all places are as cool as they are described on the Internet. For example, it is worth noting that the high popularity of Japanese geek centers among tourists and local geeks leads to oversaturation by shops and goods focused on mass consumers. This often creates the difference between what he expected to see, and what is actually in reality. But there were so many spontaneous trifles and pleasant discoveries that the bowl of Libra was happy to overwhelm the negative. About his experience of acquaintance with Gik-Mir Tokyo and Kyoto and unexpected surprises of Japan and this blog will be. And I’ll start with the most disappointing moment of the trip.
Disclaimer. I describe my experience and my conclusions, if you are an expert and have a more proven info, feel free to correct me in the comments. I will be interested to read.
Akihabara – shit
Each Right Travel, which I watched, https://pommicasino.co.uk/ definitely talked about Akihabar as the main Hyk center of Japan. That the most desperate Otaku, the most anime anime and all the geek-stuff are concentrated here. And these stories so overtaken my expectations that I thought that there was everything in this area.
The shell is really very tempting: bright neon signs, music, girls in thematic costumes calling in dubious establishments. And huge, no, a huge number of stores with geek content. If you put all the stores, you get several hundred staff floors. True, only 10 are useful from them.
Look. Figures, posters, manga, merch for every taste – in excess. But. The tastes are taken into account only Japanese. The feeling is created that the Japanese are all together fetish on the same. Each store has the same assortment. The same figures: what is in a modest tent on the street, what is in an 8-story store for nerds. A bunch “Magic Battle”, Called quantities “Van-writer”, Hip “Friren” And the dominance of the same Re zero. Everything else on the shelves is either single exceptions, according to famous franchises, or one hundred percent Japanese. That’s just just there.
And this set, unfortunately, does not fall into me. I am not a big fan of figures, and and the franchises that interest me are simply absent on the shelves. Who would have thought that finding the figure of Misato from the adored “Evangelion” – The impossible task. AND “Bibop cowboy “ They do not.
But squatting every time you see Final Fantasy, You can pump your legs and jump like a frog. A feeling is created that not any Super Mario Bros or The Legend of Zelda The main franchises of the country, namely the “final line”. By the way, with game shopping on Akihabar, everything is complicated. Finding something related to games is very difficult. You can find a little “Mario”, everything you want from Square Enix and mainly – that’s it. As an exception, I managed to find a corner with Merch from From Software and a dubious figure of a nurse from Silent Hill 2. It is more likely to find retro console or an unknown game, the number of which makes a box with a cartridge not like a game, but an artifact from a film about Jones Indiana. And retro shopping is another drop of disappointment of that evening.
Rotten potatoes
When I planned the route, one of the first places that I put on the map was the Super Potato Store. This is the most famous and advertised retro-game store in Japan. In every video report, leaders necessarily went to it. I can say one thing – everything was much better in the video. And either I got at a bad point, or the store just died. Snake in the photo – as evidence.
A very meager assortment, everything is dirty, windows are kept on snot, rotten sellers, the number of at least how many games for me are minimal. Neither Metal Gear Solid, Neither Silent Hill, Neither Resident Evil and so on. One local (and the “final car” car). And prices bite to everything. The first VR shuttle Nintendo and he did not work. The most aesthetic thing in the store is a wall with posters. To have fun and clog the basket, you need to be moved on a local stuff. And looking at the local enthusiastic, I can say with confidence – I’m not a nerd and a geek.
