History of the Assassin’s Creed series. Part I

Series Assassins Creed for more than ten years. I decided to recall how it all began, how the series lived its successful and not very days, as it changed from part to part.

The story of a series of games about murderers originated back in 1989, when the first part of the game Prince Persia released by Brèderbund Software was released. In the game, the evil vizier Jaffar captivates the princess, and we, as the prince, must save her in 60 minutes of real time. This is complicated by the fact that we are in a dungeon, which, moreover, is replete with traps and secret moves. In order to pass the game, I had to get out of this dungeon. In the end we defeat the villain and save the beloved. The game is a nonlinear platformer where we ourselves choose where to go to the prince. The game can offer the acrobatic tricks that the prince owns, and rather simple puzzles.

The game was loved by many, including critics, which caused the development of the sequel, published in 1994. The sequel received the subtitle “The Shadow and the Flame” (Shadow and Flame) and repeated the concept of the previous part, as well as the majority of the sequels of those years, that is, everything was done as before, but several times more. The plot has become more worked out, like locations. If in the first game the location was only a dull prison, then in the second part there is a cave, a temple and Persia itself. In the end, such locations began to appear in the game that the gamers were breathtaking – a giant chess field, a room with a huge spider and many others! It is not surprising that the second part of the prince seemed to many even better than the original!

In 1995, as a result of the “price war”, Brèderbund Software bought The Learning Company. In 1999, she released the tricel of the Prince of Persia, in which the usual 2D format of the platformer was replaced by 3D, and the game began to very much resemble the fashionable Tomb Raider at that time, with which everyone made comparisons. Unfortunately, the TLC product faded compared to Lara Croft, which is why they met the game cold.

After the failure of the 3-day adventures of the Prince of Persia, the series began to be transferred from hand to hand. At first, in 1998, TLC was bought by Mattel Interactive, then in 2000 Gores Technology was resold, later – Houthon Mifflin Harcourt, well, and some of the acquired units were sold to the French company Ubisoft, including the series Prince of Persia.

Well, Ubisoft had the task of reviving the once popular project and at the same time not to fall face into the mud, as previous developers did. To do this, they invited the creator of the very first part of Prince Persia – Jordan Mekner. He wrote a script for a new game and was its designer. Headed the project by Patrice Dezile. At first he did not want to make the main character the prince at all. According to him, the prince is the one who is waiting for the king. But still he agreed to leave the prince the main character.

The release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time took place in 2003, and the game immediately became cult, received a bunch of awards and was recognized as one of the greatest games in the world. Therefore, there was no doubt in the creation of the sequel. Simultaneously with the work on the continuation of Ubisoft, they began to develop a spin-off under the code name Prince of Persia: Assassins.

Responsible for the development of the game was already familiar to us Patrice Dezile. He came up with a new protagonist – Assassin, who was supposed to save the prince from all hardships. However, during the development of a game, which was planned to include a cooperative and multiplayer for scale, the prince lost the status of the protagonist, whose place was taken by the Order of Assassinov. When Ubisoft realized that the project would be successful with this concept, I decided to make a separate series of games from the spin-off, called Assassins Creed.

But before we start talking about the first game of the series, I would like to tell the history of the actually existing assassins.
Hassan ibn Sabbach, founder of the Order of the Assassins, nicknamed the “Elder of the Mountain” was born in a family of moderate Shiites, but after studying in Cairo he moved to a more radical teachings of the nizarites. It is significant that he was a classmate of many influential and even great people of that time-among them the poet Omar Hayyam and the vizier of the Empire of the Seljuki al-Mulke. It was with the murder of Nizam al-Mulka that the history of the Assassins as the organization of killers began. The fact is that former school comrades became political rivals. Hassan ibn Sabbach decided to eliminate him-a killer, dressed as a wanderer, was sent to him, and the vizier was killed right in the middle of his luxurious palace surrounded by a guard and many witnesses.

Hassan Ibn Sabbach needed his own empire, the base for which could become the Alamut fortress near the Caspian Sea. The fortress attracted him with its inaccessibility for the troops. To master it, he had to prepare the ground for the coming empire. Having impersoned the teacher-teacher, he began to train local residents, making ardent followers from them and turning the Assassin nizarites into the faith. At some point, the commandant of the fortress discovered that not a single person would obey his orders. As a result, he had to escape, throwing his patrimony. So the Assassins declared their independence. They built even more than a hundred fortresses, and the territories occupied by them were considered individual states.

The central idea of ​​the Nizarites was the existence of a certain “hidden” imam, a descendant of Muhammad, who allegedly escaped from enemies and will appear as a messiah. Sabbach managed to convince his Nizari warriors, as if personally released this “hidden imam” from captivity even in infancy and even brought up a divine child, settling in the secret chambers of the fortress. After that, everyone believed that Sabbach is the Prophet and the Messenger of Allah himself.
I must say that the Assassins were not the Order of Secret killers, as was presented in games. According to their modern ideas, they can rather be called terrorists, since they preferred not secretive operations, but loud and bloody political murders that were committed with a large accumulation of the people. The elimination of an important figure was not so much an end in itself as the method of political terror. Moreover, many of the killers did not run away from the scene, but remained and violently shouted political and religious appeals to the people until they were captured or killed by security. It is noteworthy that their main enemies of the Assassins proclaimed the entire class of officials and bureaucrats.
The highest power of the Turks-Seljukov and Arabs was so frightened by the terror of the Assassins that even in peacetime she almost bore chain mail. The only more or less serious way to protect yourself was to secretly bribe Sabbach. In fact, a system similar to a racketeering was developed – the nobles should have paid a lot of money to the nizarites so that they would not attack them. This regime lasted a long time until the Mongols attacked the fortress.
A significant part of the Assassins continued to resist the Mongol invasion even after the order of their leader to surrender to the invaders. This resistance turned into a long war. For example, the siege of the GIRDMCHUK fortress lasted 20 years. Despite the fierce resistance of the Mongols nevertheless prevailed over the assassins, what the incredible act of Rukn ad-Din Khurshah helped them. This Rud-Din Khurshah, wanting to become the leader of the assassins, kills his father to take his place, after which he gives the Mongols and Alamut, and most of the other fortresses. And he himself relies on the mercy of the winners, who subsequently still kill him, introducing the murder by an accident.

Now that you have met the assassins, you can start The story of the first game of the series.
After the E3 2006 exhibition, at which Assassins Creed presented, the game became very expected. Eyeering players noticed interference resembling computer failures. It was then that the theories began that the plot of the new game from Ubisoft will proceed not only in the past, but also in the present, or even in the future. And the guesses of the players were true. On November 13, 2007, the game reached the shelves of stores and plunged players not only to the medieval Jerusalem kingdom, but also in the near future, in which the main plot Games.

Abstergo Corporation created a mechanism that reproduces any temporary segments and life situations from the memory of the ancestors. The creator of this mechanism is the scientist Warren Vidik, who called his brainchild animus. Owners of the corporation need to learn something from the life of Assassin Altair ibn-la-Ahhad. To this end, they find his descendant – Desmond Miles, an ordinary bartender, abduct him and immerse him in animus. From this moment the game begins.

With the help of animus, Miles is placed in the body of Altair, but this attempt is unsuccessful: the animus constantly makes fails, which is why it is not possible to establish neither the location of Altair, nor the people who surround him. Thus, the necessary memories could not be reproduced, and therefore Warren Vidik and his assistant Lucy Stillman decide to start with an earlier memory block.

A new attempt allows us to establish the past of Altair, when in 1191 he, together with the Assassins Malik and Kadar, arrives at the Solomon temple in Jerusalem to prevent the Templars from taking possession of the artifact – apple of Eden. During a fight with Templar Robert de Sable, Assassin suffers defeat and loses his partners. Altair is forced to return to Masiaf, where the Assassin fortress is located. After some time, Malik, who not only escaped himself, but also managed to recapture the artifact from the clutches. As it turned out, the Templar army tracked down Malik and, having come to the village of Assassins, arranged a battle. The enemies demanded to return the apple, but the head of the Assassins al-Myalim refuses them. Having undertaken military tricks, Altair still manages to defeat the Templars, but despite this, he could not avoid reckoning for unauthorized actions, as a result of which the fortress was attacked. Al-Mualim anitir angrily reports in front of his subjects, blaming him that he violated the three basic rules of the assassins, which are an immutable law. Piercing the dagger into the abdomen of Altair, the mentor straightens with him.

After this event, Miles is pulled out of animus. Lucy claims that you cannot be in the mechanism for a long time. Dzmond is given a rest until the next morning, after which he again goes to the animus. In order not to tighten the story too much, I will not describe every sortie of desmond from the mechanism and will dwell only on the plot of important points. Okay, back to Masiaf ..
So, Assassin does not die, al-Mualim only created the illusion of execution. But, having preserved life to the hero, they lower it with a rank, deprived of personal weapons and many military abilities. After that, al-Mualim instructs him to find a traitor who let the enemies into Masiaf.

Altair successfully performs this task. Part of the weapons is returned to him and instructed to find and kill 9 people from the al-Mualim list. The first victim of Assassin is Tamir, a weapon of weapons from Damascus. Altair arrives in the city and meets with a person named Rafik, who headed the Assassin Bureau to get permission to eliminate Tamir. The next goal of Altair is the slave trader Talal from Jerusalem. The head of the local bureau is Malik known to us, he lost his hand due to a severe wound. Our old acquaintance is not happy to see a former comrade and is with indignation about him.
Talal guesses that he was hunting, and adjusts the assassin a trap. Altair comes into it and is locked in a warehouse. Here the guards of Talala attack him. Talal himself at this time gives a dera. Of course, he did not run far and soon fell into the hands of Altair. Being at death, the slave trader admitted that he abducted only people forgotten by God – drug addicts, poor, leaked – and supplied them for some brotherhood.

After returning to Masiaf, Altair learns from Al-Mualim that his victims were in the Horman School of Templars and obeyed Robert de Sable, that the Templars wanted to end the war between the crusaders and the Saracens and create a new state on the Holy Land. The head of Assassinov again gives Altair the goals, this time as many as three – in three different cities.
In Damascus, his goal is the rich merchant Abu al-Nukvod. The merchant arranges a feast in his palace, which collects the whole city nobility. Having poured poison into wine, he easily kills all his guests. Altair is among the guests, but reveals the merchant’s conspiracy and brings him a mortal blow. Before his death, the merchant admits that he wanted to convey Damascus to the Templar.

The next goal of Altair is in acre. This is Abukingcasino.co.uk William Montferrat, commander of the army of King Richard Lion Heart. He does not get along with the king and wants to raise a rebellion in order to put his son on the throne. After meeting with the king, William goes to his fortress. There Altair kills him.

The last of the three targets is in Jerusalem. This is Mazh-Addin, he rules the city in the absence of the main ruler-Sallah Addin. Mazh-Addin is stiff: arranges demonstrative executions, kills everyone who he did not like. During one of these executions, the blade overtakes it.

On one of the sorties into the real world, Desmond notes that the vidic is very angry with something. From Lucy, he learns that the Abstergo Corporation belongs to the Templars, and the anger of Warren Vidik, who is also the Templar, is caused by the fact that he will learn about the assassins trying to rescue Miles from captivity.

After that, Desmonda is again taken out of animus. However, later he wanted to single -handedly possess this artifact and decided to kill all the accomplices. Altair realized that al-Mualim only used it in order to implement his insidious plan.

Desmonda is being taken out of Animus, and Vidik reports that the Assassins appeared in Abstergo who came to free Miles. However, the Templars managed to fight off them. Vidik leaves, and Desmond covers panic, as he understands that the Assassins were his only hope for salvation. At this moment, Lucy shows a gesture that she is also an assassin, making it clear that it is not all over yet.

When the next morning, Desmond again lays into animus, Altair urgently goes to Masiaf. On the way to the fortress, Assassins attack him, whose mind is confused by the effect of an apple. Altair has to enter into an unequal battle, but Malik with several warriors comes to the rescue. He tells Altair that he learned the secret of al-Mualim. Altair goes to the fortress, where he enters into a fight with al-Mualim. As a result, the spiritual leader is killed, an apple falls out of his hand, from which the hologram of the Earth appears with marked points, where other particles of Eden are supposedly stored.

After that, Desmond leaves the animus. Vidic reports to the leadership of Abstergo that he got the coordinates of Eden particles. The company’s management decides to get rid of Desmond, but Lucy reports that there is a lot of useful information in his memory, so he can still be useful. As a result, Desmond opens the ability that Altair possessed – eagle vision, thanks to which he sees bloody signs on the floor and walls of the laboratory. The game ends on this.

Desmond Miles

Desmond is the main character of the first and subsequent parts of the series. At the beginning of the game, he becomes a captive of the Abstergo Corporation, which forces him to experience the memory of his ancestor, an assassin. We know nothing about the past Miles. We only know that he worked as a bartender before he was abducted. According to the plot of the game, Miles is forced to agree to help the cloak scientist Warren Vidik, who blackmail him by the fact that if he refuses to cooperate, he will be entered into a state of coma, and in this state all the information necessary for the Templars will be removed, after which they will leave to die. Throughout the game, Desmond is in the body of his ancestor-Altair ibn-la-Ahad. Between research sessions, he remained locked in a room where he could have a rest. One of these breaks, Desmond receives a code with which it can open the door of his room in which it is sharpened, so it has the opportunity to inspect the laboratory in the absence of a visa. He is interested in access to the vidica computer, and for this he has to steal a handle of access.
From the emails in the computers of Animus and Vidik, Desmond learns a lot about Abstergo and, in particular, about the Oblast 16, which was also used before Miles in the experiment. He learns that Object 16 suffered from a long stay in Animus.
Friends of Desmond, Assassins, are repeatedly trying to free him, but all attempts are completed tragically. After the last failure of the Assassins, Lucy assured Desmond that his parents most likely managed to hide and remained alive. During this conversation, Lucy makes it clear that she is also an assassin and subsequently saves his life.

Warren Vidik

Templar who has been working in the Abstergo Corporation since 1980. He is a scientist and creator of the Animus mechanism, thanks to which people can experience the memory of their ancestors. Shortly before the creation of Animus, Warren recruited Lucy Stillman to work in Abstergo. Once he even saved Lucy when he wanted to kill three Abstergo employees. Worked with many objects, the last of which was Desmond Miles.

Lucy Stillman

Assassin. She specifically became an assistant to Warren Vidik to own information about the Abstergo Corporation and transfer it to her friends. From Lucy, Desmond learns about Abstergo’s plans through him to reveal the location of the Eden particles. Between the sessions Lucy tells Desmond about her past that she was also an abstherus captive. She asked Desmond not to judge Dr. Vidik strictly, since he was under high pressure. After some time, Lucy specifically leaves access codes in the wardrobe so that Desmond can freely leave his room. Next time on her table she leaves a pen with which Desmond got access to her computer and could read her e -mail. When the corporation decided that Desmond was no longer needed, Lucy intervened and convinced the owners to leave him alive, since his memory may contain a lot of useful information.

Altair-Ibn-la-Ahhad

Being a student of al-Mualim, he serves him and fulfills all his orders. In 1191, he goes to the Temple of Solomon to steal an important artifact – the apple of Edem. During the task, Altair violates the credo of the brotherhood, killing the innocent, which speaks of his wayward nature.
Fulfilling the deadly tasks of al-Mualim, Altair gradually changes his worldview, he begins to sympathize with his victims and not so one-sidedly look at the world. Reflections lead him to the fact that he begins to doubt even for his own purposes and goals of the whole fraternity.
In heavy battle, Altair defeats Al Mualim and first wants to destroy Edem’s apple, but then decides to leave him to himself, hoping to find his application for the benefit of mankind.

All the victims of Altair, like al-Mualim, are real historical personalities. Among them there are great masters: Garnier de Napluz, Robert de Sable and Siberd. The appearance of real characters was a distinctive feature of the series, in the subsequent parts of which other significant people will meet.

Let’s move on to the story of the gameplay. An important role in gameplay Parkur plays. You can climb on any building, tower or wall. Cities architecture in Assassin’s Creed is specially designed so that Altair can climb on any roof. Climbing into the buildings and moving horizontally, the player can easily leave the chase.

Solomon managed to carry out a plan for building a grandiose temple, to which Jews rushed to worship from all over Israel.

After a failure in the temple, we return to the fortress of the Assassins Masiaf. Masiaf is a real city in Syria;In the Middle Ages, the fortress belonged to the Assassins-Nizarites. In 1260, the fortress was conquered by the Mongols.

Most of the game takes place in the open world. The entire game space is a simplified model of the Holy Land and is divided into 7 main parts. These are three large cities (Damascus, Akra and Jerusalem), Assassinov Castle (Masiaf) and the space between them – Kingdom. The kingdom is quite extensive squares among the mountains with small settlements of local residents and crusader camps. The rich area is the largest district in the city and has many attractions that attract people to the city. Among them, the Saruja market, the largest in the entire Holy Land, the palace of the King-King King, in which Abu-al-Nukvod arranged a deadly feast, as well as the Mosque of the Umayyadov-one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world.

The next city – Akra. Currently called Akco and is in Israel.
